Sheep Easy 2014 at Wickepin WA was a great success with nearly 300 producers and industry professionals, an initiative of The Sheep’s Back program the aim was to showcase the very latest practices and technology available to WA’s commercial sheep producers.

Ian Crafter of Atlex was the first of three presentations in which Ian talked about how sheep work can be made quicker, easier and safer by considering animal psychology and animal behaviour when designing sheepyards. Ian told producers “sheep work can be made quicker, easier and safer if you give infrastructure a priority and take a long-term view on an investment that will last you 40 to 50 years. “It’s all about design.” The key to a functional design was thinking like a sheep, allowing the sheep to think it is ‘winning’ or escaping by providing an area that has flexibility of movement.
