Robotic Total Base Station surveying through to construction
The merging of millimetre accurate surveying equipment with the latest feedlot and induction designs. The Total Station surveying equipment is used to survey the initial feedlot design, to identify the exact positioning of any existing fence lines, roads, feed bunks, water, air and power services are located. The survey data is merged into design layout with exact precision before construction commences. The design is then put back into the survey equipment to stake out the exact post positioning of all structures with millimetre precision for construction.
Use of the surveying equipment has allowed the ability to survey large areas of either existing feedlot setups or new green field sites.
Deepwater Woolshed on show at Venice Architecture Biennale 10th Sept - 19th Nov 2006
The Deepwater woolshed built by Atlex Stockyards in 2003 has been chosen to represent Australia! The Royal Australian Institute of Architects instigated this for the Venice Architecture Biennale, taking place from 10th Sept - 19th Nov 2006.
Previously the Deepwater woolshed has won three sections of the NSW Architectural Awards and one National Architectural Award. It is one of 12 outstanding Australian buildings that highlight aspects of the landscape. The woolshed owned by Michael Darling and designed by Stutchbury and Pape represents Interface. The woolshed is a six stand raised board with front fill catching pens with enormous natural lighting, a filtered cooling system with louvres and an elaborate amenities area for shearers and shed staff including kitchen, showers, toilets, a raised deck area and grinding room.
Atlex designed and built all the internal and lower yards underneath the wool area plus the extensive yards adjacent to the woolshed, including a double smooth top working race with toe recess under a pavilion style roof. The sheepyards also include the proven adjustable tapered drafting race, 360 degree hinges, an adjustable loading ramp with automatic safety bar and walkway for extra safety. The yards have the ability to hold in excess of 5,000 sheep.

Atlex's step through manways with dog flaps saves opening and shutting gates with a cam action and rubber flap, helping the energy levels of your favourite dog after a long working day.
The judges were impressed with the simplicity of this Atlex innovation which can be incorporated into existing sheepyards or designed into new yards.
The posts are concreted into the ground and, as there are no chains or catches, it is extremely easy to open with your hip or hand. It also automatically closes to prevent sheep from opening it.
Deepwater Woolshed Awards
Deepwater Woolshed at Wagga Wagga, NSW, sheepyards were DESIGNED and BUILT BY ATLEX in 2003. The woolshed WON FOUR AWARDS at the 2005 Royal Australian Institute Of Architects (RAIA) NSW Architecture Awards. Atlex was involved in all stages from the design to construction of the woolshed and sheepyards.
