Muchea Livestock Centre Offical Opening
The new state of the art Muchea Livestock Centre was offically opened on the 3rd May 2010 by the Hon Colin Barnett (Premier of Western Australia) and the Hon Terry Redman (Minister for Agriculture and Food.
Atlex were appointed by the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority (WAMIA) to design the $54m Muchea Saleyards. As a replacement for the existing Midland Saleyards, the new state of the art facility comprises of an undercover livestock saleyard facility & supporting infrastructure. It can accommodate 3400 cattle and 28,000 sheep per day with an annual thoughput of up to 120,000 cattle and 1,000,000 sheep.
It features soft flooring for cattle, curved races that reduce livestock and human contact, on-site effluent treatment and potable water self-sufficiency using the 5.2 hectare of roof as catchment.
The livestock centre will be run by the WA Meat Industry Authority (WAMIA).
